A very general care sheet for Polistes wasps. I know Polistes has a better one so mine can be temporary if someone wants to post a better one

Paper wasps are by far the easiest and most fun to raise. They are for the most part quite docile and can be tamed easily

First of all, before you get a queen wasp, you should have the cage all set up and ready for her before hand. The besr method (invented by Tlielaxu himself) is to use an upsidedown "krittter keeper" ...

Sorry guys to who ever still checks out this site. I completly forgot about it since my wasp plans crash and burned at the beginning of the summer. All I have now are two C vittatus males. So no more wasps till next year. Hopefully my plans won't be destroyed next year too.

Well my colony of two exclamans left their nest while I was gone on a trip in west texas to visit my grandparents. I came in and after checking on my scorpions I looked in the KK with my exclamans in it. Nest was empty, queen was hanging out on a stick on the bottom and the worker was on the top of the cage. They havnt gotten on it all last night or today. My dad says they've been off for 3-4 days since I left. I know they arnt hunting because there are 3 crickets walking around on the bottom. ...

I went on a scorp hunt all over CA. I'll post some pics later but I found a field of yellow jackets and some other wasp. It was incredible how many there were...kinda scary too. But the weird one was this really long red one. I tought it was butterfly because of it's size and long wings. Maybe you guys can ID it for me when I get the pictures.

Introduction

Centruroides Vittatus is also called the striped bark scorpion, or Texas bark scorpion. It is the most common scorpion in the United States. They are found in the inner southwestern states from Southern Illinois to the North, Florida to the East, and South into North/North Western Texas.

Enclosure

Centruroides Vittatus should be housed in a smaller sized enclosure. 2.5 gallon would be my advice depending on the amount of C. Vittatus you have. I have 2 in a 2.5 gallon ...

Well i've had three exclaman colonys and one metricus colony this year all from which failed. So next year I plan on doing everything possible to keep a colony for the whole year and attempt to over-winter them. This may require having to have an out door colony. But next year besides keeping exclamans and possibly metricus I plan on looking into other possible breeds (Fuscatus, possibly dominula if I can get one through the mail). Just thought i'd share my ideas and see if anyone would be able ...

Okay so I had been out of crickets for about five days so I would look for stuff out side to feed my exclamans. It would never be enough and some times they wouldnt even acknowledge it was there. So finally my dad brought crickets home. I put 4 crix in there and that was the most violent wasp hunt I had ever seen. When they had caught them and brought them up to the nest the other wasps would try to steal the cricket from the other wasp and they ended up ripping it apart.

Sorry for TMI but ...

Just wanted to share a bit about the only Hymenopteran I see at work . . .

These guys are a cool tiny parasitic wasp that specialize in aphids. The female lays her eggs in young aphids and the larvae develop inside -- eventually the aphid dies and turns into a swollen dried husk while the larva develops and pupates.

I've seen a female laying eggs before. It's really cool to watch -- she'll wander around a leaf, tapping with her antennae until she finds an aphid, then she just sticks ...
