I'm not sure about Northern species. I think P. Exclamans is a great beginner wasp. This was my first species to own and got P. Metricus later.

well he does not have P. exclamans where he is... so yes P. fuscatus or dominula is good for begginers

oh yeah i see what you mean. exclamans has to be one of my fav polistes species they are so interesting and colorful not to mention they have a great temper! (most of the times ; )

They do, i've only had trouble with one exclamans worker. Flew down and attacked me cause I suppose I was to close to the nest. It was also very stormy out. idk if that affects them but eh.
